Metaverse Law Nucleus

Metaverse Law Nucleus is dedicated towards conducting research and working on the legal, policy and regulatory aspects pertaining to the Metaverse.

The Metaverse is only beginning to grow and is expected to become the central lifeline of every single person in the world in the coming times. The Metaverse is likely to throw up a lot of interesting legal, policy and regulatory nuances.

There may be more than one Metaverse in the future, as more than one major company is expected to release their version of the Metaverse. Decentraland, the largest Metaverse platform, is currently run by the non-profit Decentraland Foundation. However, Facebook has changed its name to Meta and has started heavily investing in the Metaverse. Somnium Space has been created in partnership in Sony and the Sandbox belongs to Amioca Brands. Hence, the competition between these different entities running the Metaverses is bound to be huge. As a result, all throughout the world, there will be disputes involving provisions of competition law, antitrust , literally between different Metaverses. People will earn money in Metaverse and hence, enter into contracts with other people. So, we are looking at a time when there will be disputes within a Metaverse as also disputes between Metaverses.

Metaverse Law Nucleus aims to track and work on the emerging legalities and legal nuances thrown up by the Metaverse. It also aims to keep track of the evolving legal jurisprudence in the Metaverse, along with examining and analyzing as to how emerging trends of legalities concerning the Metaverse are evolving and will or may evolve in the coming times.

Metaverse Law Nucleus aims to interact with various international stakeholders on the legalities and legal nuances of the Metaverse. It also aims to examine and analyze the effect of the existing law on Metaverse and what are the specific new legal challenges and issues that the Metaverse as a paradigm is beginning to throw up. 

It aims to analyze and explore as to how the existing law can be and should be made applicable in the context of the Metaverse. It will also explore as to what are the other new legal paradigms ,legal provisions and frameworks that are required to be put in place by lawmakers and policymakers across the world as they deal with the various challenges thrown up by the Metaverse.
